ACCESSORY GEARBOX CLEANING AND REPAIR (Sheet 13 of 40)
WARNING
Turn spur gearshaft No. 9 (1) over and look at
f.
air passages (2) for clogging. If clogged,
clean air passages with cleaning solvent and
shop air.
4.
INSPECT ALL OTHER GEARSHAFTS.
NOTE
Damage found in steps a. through e. is
not allowed. If any damage is found,
replace gears and bearings as required
Look at gear (3) and two bearings (4) for
a.
cracks, chips or any red-purple, purple or
blue discoloration.
b.
Look at two bearings (4) for rust, broken
parts, pitting, spalling or dirt.
Apply clean lubricating oil to bearings (4) and
c.
hold gearshaft (5) horizontal. Slowly rotate
each bearing (4) by hand and feel for rough-
ness.
Using four-power magnifying glass, check
d.
gear teeth (6) for wear and corrosion.
Visually inspect for loose, damaged, or miss-
e.
ing expansion plugs.
Clean minor corrosion on gears by rubbing
f.
with scouring pad. If corrosion cannot be re-
moved, or if any other damage was found in
steps a. through d., replace gears and bear-
ings as required (page 7-60).
