WARNING
Compressed air used for cleaning purposes will not exceed 30 psi. Use only with
effective chip-guarding and personal protective equipment (goggles/faceShield,
gloves, etc.).
10. CLEAN ARMATURE (1) AND CHECK
DIAMETER OF COMMUTATOR (2).
a. Blow off loose copper and mica particles
from commutator (2) with low pressure
air.
b. Turn lathe on. Polish commutator (2)
with sandpaper. Turn lathe off.
c. Check diameter of commutator (2) to
limits shown in table 9-4 (page 9-32). If
commutator (2), is not within limits,
assemble starter motor (page 9-37) and
replace.
