B r a k e  G r o u p . The brake group (Refer to Figure 1-7), located on
d.
the front transporter assembly, consists of the following parts.
(1) Mechanical Parking Brake Lever and Linkage. Links to hydrau-
lic brake shoes and lining.
(2) Surge Brake Actuator.  Actuator is mounted on towbar. When
b r a k e s on tow vehicle are applied, trailer pushes against tow
vehicle causing actuator to compress and exert a force on master
cylinder that supplies hydraulic pressure to front brakes.
(3) Wheel Cylinders and Brake Shoes. Wheel cylinders apply pres-
sure to brake shoes.
