Front Axle Group.

The front axle group (Refer to Figure 1-5) in-

cludes the following parts:

( 1 ) A x l e Frame. W h e e l m o u n t s h o c k - a b s o r b i n g a s s e m b l i e s , b r a k e

system and towbar mount to axle frame.

( 2 ) W h e e l Mount Shock-Absorbing Spring Assemblies. Wheels are

m o u n t e d on these assemblies.

E a c h assembly contains six

springs that absorb road shock; a kingpin as the steering pivot;

and

hydraulic/mechmicd

brakes.

(3) Tie Rod Assemblies.

T i e rods connect each wheel mount shock

absorbing assembly to center steering arm.

( 4 ) T o w b a r . T o w b a r connects to center steering arm with hinge

pin.

Brake master cylinder mounts on towbar.

( 5 ) S a f e t y C h a i n s . S a f e t y chains are connected between

suspension

frame and towbar. They also limit turning radius.
