EMERGENCY PROCEDURES (Continued)
AUTOMATIC INITIATION OF FIRE ALARM
Two fire alarm devices are provided in the Trainer Shelter - a loud horn (4) on the wall capable of being heard throughout
the shelters and a strobe (flashing) light (5) for crew member alert in the Crew Station. These alarms are automatically
set off in the event of smoke or fire. Manual Pull Stations (6), (7), and (8) are also provided at the Shelter exits for
manual initiation of a fire alarm. When an alarm is set off automatically or manually, power is cut off, normal lighting is
turned off and emergency lights will light automatically. If a fire alarm occurs:
WARNING
Avoid halon dispensing nozzles when a fire alarm sounds. Halon is released at pressures great enough to cause damage
to eyesight or cause injuries from sudden personnel reactions. The halon release is delayed for 20 seconds to allow time
for personnel to leave the Shelters and close the doors.
NOTE
Any shelter door locked on the outside may be released from the inside in an emergency situation. First, make sure that
locking pin (8A) is removed. Then unscrew the thumbscrew (9) and give the handle a sharp downward thrust to break
the seal outside.
1.
Make sure no personnel remain in the Crew Station or shelters, then leave the shelter by the nearest exit.
2.
Close and secure the shelter door upon leaving and check the remaining doors to make sure they are closed and
secured.
3.
Notify the Fire Department.
4.
Do not re-enter the Shelters or open the doors until permitted by authorized personnel.
