(2) Aviation Intermediate Maintenance (A VIM) - Continued. (The
a i r c r a f t maintenance company within the maintenance battalion of
a division will perform AVIM functions consistent with air mo-
bility requirements and conservation of personnel and equipment
resources.
A d d i t i o n a l intermediate maintenance support will be
provided by the supporting nondivisional AVIM unit.)
B - 2 . USE OF MAINTENANCE ALLOCATION CHART.

T h e MAC assigns maintenance functions to the lowest level of mainte-
nance based on past experience and the following considerations:
(1) Skills available.
(2) Time required.
(3) Tools and test equipment and/ or available.
Only t h e lowest level of maintenance authorized to perform a mainte-

n a n c e fu n c t i o n is i n d i c a t e d . If t h e l o w e s t l e v e l of mai n t e n a n c e can n o t
perform all tasks of any single maintenance function (e.g., test, re-
p a i r ) , then the higher maintenance level(s) that can accomplish addi-
tional tasks will also be indicated.
A maintenance function assigned to a maintenance level will automa-

tically be authorized to be performed at any higher maintenance level.

A maintenance function that cannot be performed at the assigned level
o f maintenance for any reason may by evacuated to the next higher
m a i n t e n a n c e o r g a n i z a t i o n . H i g h e r maintenance levels will perform the
m a i n t e n a n c e functions of lower maintenance levels when required or
directed by the appropriate commander.
T h e assignment of a maintenance function will not be constructed as

authorization to carry the associated repair parts in stock.
Authority to requisition, stock or otherwise secure necessary repair
parts will be as specified in the repair parts and special tools list
appendix.
N o r m a l l y there will be no deviation from the assigned level of main-

tenance.
I n cases of operational necessity, maintenance functions
a s s i g n e d to a maintenance level may, on a one-time basis and at the
r e q u e s t of the lower maintenance level, be specifically authorized by
t h e maintenance officer to the level of maintenance to which the func-
tion is assigned. The special tools, equipment, etc. required by the
l o w e r level of maintenance to perform this function will be furnished
by the maintenance level to which the function is assigned. This
t r a n s f e r of a maintenance function to a lower maintenance level does
n o t relieve the higher maintenance level of the responsibility of the
function. The higher level of maintenance has the authority to determine:
