HAND HELD FIRE EXTINGUISHER OPERATION
Hand held Halon fire extinguishers (10), (11), (12) and (13) are available at each Shelter exit. If the fire alarm has not
been automatically initiated, and a detected fire is locally contained (waste containers, storage cabinet, etc.), personnel
may attempt to extinguish the fire with the fire extinguishers. However, electrically caused fires or fires emitting large
amounts of smoke should not be extinguished manually INITIATE THE FIRE ALARM'
To operate a hand held fire extinguisher:
1.
Remove fire extinguisher from wall by releasing dip on supporting strap.
2.
Pull the pin via the ring and hold extinguisher upright.
3.
Stand back 10 feet from fire source.
4.
Aim nozzle at base of fire.
5.
Squeeze handle and sweep nozzle back and forth across fire source.
MANUAL INITIATION OF FIRE ALARM
1.
Locate the closest manual pull station (6), (7) or (8).
CAUTION
Do not try to reset a manual pull station once it has been activated. An internal switch could be broken if the unit is not
unlocked first. The Fire Department will notify the proper authorities when it may be reset.
2.
Lift the outer door (14) to expose the actuation door (15).
3.
Pull the actuation door forward (16) until the alarm horn is activated.
4.
Make sure no personnel remain in the Crew Station or shelters then leave the shelter by the nearest exit.
5.
Close and secure the shelter door upon leaving and check the remaining doors to make sure they are closed and
secured.
6.
Notify the Fire Department.
7.
Do not re-enter the shelters until permitted by authorized personnel.
