Specialized repair activity is the lowest level that can do complete repair of the
item.

Depot is the lowest level that can do complete repair of the item.

Nonreparable. No repair is authorized.

No repair is authorized. (No parts or special tools are authorized for the mainte-
n a n c e of the "8" coded item. ) However, the item may be reconditioned by
adjusting, lubricating, etc., at the user level.
( 3 ) R e c o v e r a b i l i t y C o d e -- R e c o v e r a b i l i t y codes are assigned to items to indicate the
disposition action on unserviceable items. The recoverability code is entered in the 5th
position of the SMR code as follows:

level.
R e p a r a b l e i t e m . When uneconomically reparable, condemn and

dispose of the item at the general support level.
R e p a r a b l e item. When beyond Iower level repair capability, return to

d e p o t . Condemnation and disposal of item not authorized below
depot level.
R e p a r a b l e item. Condemnation and disposal not authorized below

Item requires special handling or condemnation procedures
because of specific reasons (e.g., precious metal content, high dollar
value, critical material). Refer to appropriate manuals/directives for
