Cylinder Head Maintenance Instructions
3-2. ENGINE BLOCK REPAIR (CONT).
NOTE
Front face of engine block is shown.
Install 3/4-in. oil galley plug (8) in
(4)
front of engine block (5). Tighten
plug to 33 to 37 lb-ft (45 to 50 Nm).
Install 1/2-in. oil galley plug (9).

Tighten plug to 23 to 27 lb-ft (31 to
37 Nm).
Install 1/4-in. oil galley plug (10).
(6)
Tighten plug to 14 to 16 lb-ft (19 to
22 Nm).
Install 3/8-in. drain cock (11).

Install 1/4-in. water jacket plug (12).
(8)
Tighten plug to 14 to 16 lb-ft (19 to
22 Nm).
Install 1-1/4-in. water core plug (13). Tighten plug to 95 to 105 lb-ft (129 to 143 Nm).

NOTE
Some engines have a connector. Others have an elbow. Refer to TM 9-2320-279-24P.
Install connector (14) or elbow (14.1).

NOTE
Rear face of engine block is shown.
(11) Install 1/2-in. oil galley plug (15) in rear end of engine block (5). Tighten plug to 23 to 27 lb-ft
(31 to 37 Nm).
(12)  Install 3/4-in. oil galley plug (16). Tighten plug to 33 to 37 lb-ft (45 to 50 Nm).
