CAUTION
Do not pry against gasket surface. Damage to
housing can occur.
3. REMOVE SHAFT (1) FROM
HOUSING (2).
Thread 5/16- 18 X 3-1/4 inch
a.
bolt (3) into shaft (1).
Position piece of flat stock under pry
b.
4. REMOVE BOLT (3) FROM SHAFT (1).
bar to prevent damage to housing (2).
While supporting spur gear (4), pry
c.
5 . REMOVE AND DISCARD PREFORMED
outward against head of bolt (3) to
PACKING (5).
remove shaft (1).
7. REMOVE GEAR (4) WITH TWO
BALL BEARINGS (6).
8. INSPECT TWO BEARINGS (6).
6 . CHECK SHAFT (1).
Inspect bearings (6) for damage. See
a.
a. Using micrometer caliper set,
TM 9-214.
measure diameter of shaft (1).
b. If bearings (6) are damaged, go to
b. Replace shaft (1) if measurement is
step 9. If not, go to step 10.
less than 1.5733 inches (39.961 mm).
