Do not open crankcase until system has
been conditioner No. 2 pumped down.
Visually check the oil level by viewing the sight
glass in the compressor crankcase. Shut down the
compressor and allow oil to settle for 5 minutes
before checking. The oil level should be near the
halfway point in the sight glass. Pump system down
(Item 10, Table 4-1). Remove fill plug from crank-
case and add clean compressor oil as required. Re-
place fill plug. To remove excess oil, open crank-
case drain plug only a few turns until oil seeps
from around threads in plug. Do not fully remove
plug. When oil is at proper level, tighten drain
plug to 18 ft-lb. Refer to LO 55-1905-223-12.
NOTE
Oil level cannot be observed in
A/C-1 and 3 (self-contained units).
Open valves and allow refrigerant back into system
(Item 10, Table 2-2).

Visually check all V-belts for proper tension and
belt drive (SF-4 and 6,
alignment. Check for cracked or deteriorated
EF-4, and 6, A/C-2)
belts. Adjust, secure, or replace V-belt as
required (paras. 2-24, 2-27, and 2-30).
